Enter a start and an end time to get the duration in hours and minutes, in decimal hours for payroll, and with breaks deducted. Times that cross midnight are handled properly: 22:00 to 06:00 is eight hours, not minus sixteen. The second tab totals a whole week and splits out overtime.
Count to midnight, then add the time after it. From 22:00 to 06:00 is two hours plus six, so eight. Subtracting the raw numbers gives minus sixteen, which is the mistake spreadsheets make when the end time is not marked as the next day. This calculator reads an earlier end time as crossing midnight.
Time in hours with the minutes expressed as a fraction rather than as minutes: 8 hours 15 minutes is 8.25, not 8.15. Multiplying 8.15 by an hourly rate underpays by six minutes an entry, which adds up quickly across a workforce.
Unpaid breaks yes, paid breaks no, and which is which depends on your jurisdiction and contract. In many places breaks under about 20 minutes are paid and longer meal breaks are not. Enter only the unpaid minutes.
